Medical Cannabis Explained: Become a confident prescriber

Medical Cannabis Explained is the anchor point of the Society’s education pathway. In this three-hour, interactive member-only session, Professor Mike Barnes guides you through the core clinical principles and regulatory requirements you need to understand before prescribing CBPMs.

You will learn:

  • The evidence base, history, and therapeutic applications
  • UK prescribing rules, the Specials framework, and CQC expectations
  • THC, CBD and product selection
  • Safe dosing, titration, red flags and managing side-effects
  • How to structure consultations and follow-up
  • How CBPMs fit into shared care, MDT decision-making, and UK pathways

Members can ask questions directly during the session, making it a practical learning environment grounded in real-world clinical experience.

Sessions take place once a month, either between 9:30am – 12:30pm or 1:30pm – 4:30pm. Following the course, you will receive a CPD Certificate and copies of the slides for your reference.
