Uncategorized

About Course

This course, presented by Advanced Nurse Practitioner and MCCS Executive Committee member Christelle Kelley, explores some of the most frequent myths, misconceptions, and difficult conversations clinicians face when discussing medical cannabis with patients or colleagues.

Through clear explanations and evidence-based guidance, you’ll learn to separate fact from fiction, increase your confidence in addressing common questions, and communicate clearly about the differences between medical and recreational cannabis, CBD products, and the clinical value of cannabinoids and terpenes.

The session encourages reflection on how clinicians can balance patient autonomy, clinical confidence, and professional responsibility when prescribing or advising on medical cannabis.

What Will You Learn?

  • Differentiate between medical and recreational cannabis, including key differences in cultivation, regulation, and product safety.
  • Explain the purpose and implications of irradiation for medical cannabis products and identify when non-irradiated products may pose risks.
  • Describe the various CBD product types (full spectrum, broad spectrum, isolate, etc.) and their differences in clinical relevance and entourage effect.
  • Recognise the importance of minor cannabinoids and terpenes in patient response and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Clarify misconceptions around prescribing limitations and communicate evidence-based information about the range of conditions medical cannabis may support.
  • Respond confidently to common myths and questions from patients and peers using factual, regulatory, and evidence-based information.
  • Apply professional judgement and informed consent principles when patients request non-standard formulations or products.
