Protected: Myths, Questions and Challenges: Addressing Common Conversations in Medical Cannabis Prescribing (Copy 1)
  • Both derive from Cannabis sativa L. but differ in quality control and legality.
  • Medical cannabis is grown under Home Office licence, tested under MHRA regulation, and issued with a Certificate of Analysis confirming cannabinoid content and contaminants.
  • Recreational cannabis is unregulated, may contain harmful contaminants, and has inconsistent THC/CBD levels.
  • Irradiation is used to eliminate microbes and ensure safety, especially for immunocompromised patients (e.g. on steroids, cancer therapy, or post-splenectomy). It does not significantly alter cannabinoid content or therapeutic effect.
  • Non-irradiated products may be acceptable for healthy patients only with informed consent documented.
